Born in Houma, LA in 1979, Greg Piazza grew up surrounded by nature in the sugar cane fields and bayous of South Louisiana and moved to Dallas, Texas in 2002. Greg began making art to cope with the loss of his brother in 2004; finding peace in creating minimalist compositions focusing on contrasting color, shape, and texture. In 2007, Greg’s work shifted as he explored how the environment shapes our thoughts and emotions. Following the Latin phrase, “Inveniam Viam Aut Faciam - I shall find a way or make one," he seeks out remote landscapes through which he can find a simple and calming connection back to his brother. In 2022 Greg’s wife, Jennifer, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. This inspired the creation of his “Time” series, documenting time in the smallest increments, before Jennifer passed away in 2023. Greg’s photographs consistently include permanent subjects such as mountains, boulders, or architecture, metaphors to everlasting memories of his brother and Jennifer, juxtaposed with moving elements such as clouds or water.

Piazza worked with Ansel Adams’ longtime assistant Alan Ross on fine-tuning his approach to processing and printing. Greg’s keen eye for composition and deep understanding of light and shadow draw deep emotion. His tonally rich work has been exhibited at Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s “The National: Best Contemporary Photography 2018 and 2022”, The Mattatuck Museum’s exhibition “Convergence, Meditations on American Landscape” (2018/2019), The Center for Photographic Arts’ “International Juried Exhibition 2022”, and other galleries and public institutions. Greg’s photograph “Moon Over Lower Falls” was awarded the People’s Choice Award at the The Center for Photographic Arts’ International Juried Exhibition 2022, his Water & Light series was awarded Honorable Mention in the 2022 ND Awards, and a selection of his long exposure works were awarded Honorable Mention in the 2021 ND Awards. Greg works are included in the collections of Fort Wayne Museum of Art, The Mattatuck Museum, in addition to corporate and private collections.
